Kiva: Microloans that make the world a better place.

maddyfundIf you haven't taken a look at kiva.org, you should.

You can go to Kiva's website and lend to someone in the developing world who needs a loan for their business - like raising goats, selling vegetables at market or making bricks. Each loan has a picture of the entrepreneur, a description of their business and how they plan to use the loan so you know exactly how your money is being spent - and you get updates letting you know how the business is going. The best part is, when the entrepreneur pays back their loan you get your money back - and Kiva's loans are managed by microfinance institutions on the ground who have a lot of experience doing this, so you can trust that your money is being handled responsibly.

I just made a loan to an entrepreneur named Concepción Jiménez Velásquez in Mexico. She still needs another $50.00 to complete her loan request of $550.00 (you can loan as little as $25.00!). Help me get this business off the ground and make a loan to Concepción Jiménez Velásquez too:

It's finally easy to actually do something about poverty - using Kiva I know exactly who my money is loaned to and what they're using it for. And most of all, I know that I'm helping them build a sustainable business that will provide income to feed, clothe, house and educate their family long after my loan is paid back.

Join me in changing the world - one loan at a time.!
Maddy

I'm a huge fan of Kiva. I really believe that the process is a win-win situation. The lender gets to help people wouldn't otherwise have options, and the lendee is provided a means to a secure income. It reminds me of the fishing story, where by teaching someone to fish they are much better off than by just giving the person a fish to eat. Kiva enables men and women to provide for themselves.

I was looking for you BLOG VILLAGE voting link so that I could vote for your blog to get your blog showing on the list. I am working on a BLOG VILLAGE Equine Webring to link all of the horse related blogs together. Let me know if you are interested.
This is very cool. I had heard about it on Public Radio but hadn'r gotten around to checking it out in detail. I sponsor 3 young women through Children International but it would be very cool to help a family become independant and improve themselves.

Maddy you are a rockstar! To be thinking about what you can do to make the world a better place at your age is quite honorable. Thanks for doing your part. I choose to mentor. I have been working with a girl for 6 years. She just turned 12 and today I took her to get a manicure. She just had so much fun. Keep us posted on Conception's success.
