This is such a cute picture! The things on the foal's feet look like a form of an extension... possibly joined on with equilox... it's amazing the things farriers can do these days! It looks like the foal has contracted tendons perhaps... it's back legs are very upright and it looks like if it were walking, it'd be walking on tippy toes... this entension would be put on to try and fix the problem.
