Homemade Horse Treats.

Oat 'n' Apple Chewies

Treat your horse or pony to these simple squares made of wholesome ingredients. Keep them fresh in the fridge. Remember not to feed too many of any treat too often.
INGREDIENTS:

1 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce
1 cup oat bran cereal or ground oatmeal
½ cup all purpose flour (approx.)
PREPARATION:

Preheat oven to 350F
Oil a 9inch x 9inch square cake pan
Spread the batter evenly in the cake pan and bake for 20-30 minutes. The batter will start to shrink away from the sides and it will be firm to the touch.

We've tried this and here is what we think each horse at the ranch would rate this recipe.

Keiki: ***
Maverick: ****
Tigger: **

Maverick seemed to like them the most, (no surprise!)

Just curious, how do you rate them Maddy?

Truthfully? Maybe half a star! (They're not that tasty!) I think the horses were just being polite when they ate them. What nice horses we have!

And for the record, Loki, (our bird) wouldn't eat them at all. He spit it right out!
We didn't offer any to Jai.

Yeah. OK. I'd appreciate it if you posted a note or something on these. You two are asleep and I come home and grab some cookies while I check my email. Yeah. Great. Someone's in big trouble. See houw you like it when I change out your cocoa puffs with Jai's kibble. Nice. Real nice.
Oh, come on, Dad. Yesterday we made horse treats and people treats (oatmeal cookies.) It wasn't too hard to tell which treats were for people and which treats were for horses!
