Kiva: My $100 Microloan Fund for Third World Entrepreneurs
Some of you may have noticed a link to my Kiva portfolio on the sidebar of the blog. Kiva is an organization that lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can "sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you've sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back. Dad blogs about this more on his blog since he gave me the $100.
I read the bios of several people who are signed up with Kiva, and then had to choose who to give small business loans to. It was hard to choose. I wanted to help everyone. Here's the people I loaned money to in my Kiva Portfolio.
As a side note, I think that "Kiva" would be a really cool name for a horse. I just like the way it sounds.
