10,000 Steps a day challenge: Does that include trotting?
We got pedometers at school to count how many steps we take a day. A healthy person should walk about 10,000 steps a day.
The first day I wore mine I had just over 6,000 steps at the the time school ended. I headed out to the barn and decided to wear my pedometer while I rode that day. Is that cheating or just being creative?
I did a quick ride and saw that the pedometer now read just over 8,000 steps.
So, I decided since I had been doing some of the work, (posting,) and the horse had been doing some of the work, I'd split the extra 2,000 steps. I decided that I had earned another 1,000.
I put a few hundred more on when I got home and did the usual stuff.
Here's a site that lists ways to add steps every day. I think they need to add posting to the list!
Take a walk with your spouse, child, or friend
Walk the dog
Use the stairs instead of the elevator
Park farther from the store
Better yet, walk to the store
Get up to change the channel
Window shop
Plan a walking meeting
Walk over to visit a neighbor
Get outside to walk around the garden or do a little weeding

I think it's interesting that it recorded your "steps" when you were riding. It must have come from the posting. My mathematician brain is churning.
I'd add to your "add more steps" list to walk with the horse when you're lunging instead of just standing there. I walk a ton of miles that way in the spring and summer when I'm conditioning horses for my open house. The weight falls off and I get to wear my skinny jeans by the time we have our event. Then, unfortunately, winter comes and I can't work horses and I put it all back on but there's always spring....

I think riding is totally exercise! It's exercise for you and the horse. :-]
