In a perfect world, golf courses would be designated equestrian zones.

Golf Course.jpgI admit it. Every time we drive past a golf course I dream of cantering across it. It's just so tempting. Perfect rolling hills of soft green grass.

It's not that I don't like golfers, but it sure would be nice to have those open courses for some riding. And why stop there?

How about all those soccer and football fields, and the public park with perfect grass near our house?

Groomed arenas are nice. Mountain trails are nice. Golf courses sure would be nice!

I totally agree that Golf Courses sit empty waiting for some youthful horsey fun! Good thinking Mad!

Oh, my, can you just see the ground's boy running around frantically trying to replace all of the sudo-divets caused by the horses hooved. Just the thought makes me laugh!!

I saw a bumper sticker at the barn one day that said, "Golf courses - a waste of good pasture land." And I thought I was the only one who thought that .....

Aunt Peggy and I did that one day due to extenuating circumstances after chasing cows on the range. It was much closer (by about ten miles) back to town and a stock trailer than the long ride back to the ranch. We rode along the edge of the golf course. My horse, Caesar, was too terrified to go along the highway with the semitrucks rushing past and was even afraid of the golf course. He was trembling the entire time, threatening to chuck me off, and run away from the danger he instinctively sensed. He was an incredible horse and athlete, but much preferred sage brush and dirt roads. I later learned I was lucky the golf course manager did not catch us. Though in retrospect, there was no way anyone could have caught Caesar. Without question, he was the best horse I have ever ridden.
