The day Jai jumped off the deck. (Part 2 of the jumping dog.)
Amy suggested we create a post about this story. It's a Jai story we'll never forget.
We live in a two level house. We have two decks that come off the top level, so they're pretty far off the ground. The decks have about a three foot solid rail all around them. One day we had some people over. It was a nice day and the doors to the decks were open. People were in and out. My cousin's dog Shady had come over to visit as well. Jai was pretty excited to see everyone. He was busy saying hello to people, upstairs, downstairs, everywhere. He's a very enthusiastic greeter.
Anyway, we were all inside when someone, (we think it was my Aunt Heidi?) came in and said "Jai just jumped off the deck!"
He'd launched himself up and over the solid deck railing. He probably took about a 16 foot fall, and managed to crash through a couple of trees on his way down. We all ran downstairs and went outside. By the time we got there Jai was just a happy dog and running around with Shady.
My dad looked him over, and he seemed to be fine....no signs of any injuries. We found a couple of tree limbs he had broken during his fall.
We don't know what Jai was thinking when he made that jump. Sometimes we wonder what he thought about on the way down. Did his life flash before his eyes? He's never told us a thing. And what did Shady think? Maybe he thinks Jai's a superhero. Maybe Shady dared Jai to jump.
Anyway, he's never tried that again, but then again we keep a pretty close eye on him when he's on the deck!

I fully expected at least a broken leg. Jai must have landed squarely on his head.
