Winter riding lessons: A survival guide.

I had a dressage lesson today. It was about 4 degrees. Here are a couple of suggestions that may help you survive the cold temps during your winter training:

1: Toe Warmers. We used to ride in winter boots, (very warm) but my trainer doesn't like us to ride in those because they're so bulky. So I rode in my regular paddock boots, but put a toe warmer in each toe.

2: Cup of Noodles Soup. Steaming hot. I ate it right after my lesson.

3: Charles Owen's Helmet. Ok, I always wear my helmet, but in the winter it not only helps keep me safe, it also helps keep me warm.

4: Thermals: I wear warm thermals under my riding pants, although my legs almost never really get cold.

I just bought the BEST riding boots. All my mom's friends in Alaska have them and my trainer here was wearing them. Luckily I found them 50% off (which was even better). They are Moutain Horse boots and are super warm and fuzzy. They are a little wide, but fit just fine in my stirrups. Best of all they are waterproof so I can just hose the mud off. If I sound really excited, I am, I always have cold feet. :)
I actually have a pair of Mountain Horse boots and I love them! You are right, they are the BEST! I got them last year and rode in them all winter. Sadly, now our trainer has forbidden them becuase of their bulkiness. She just wants us to ride in normal paddock boots. (Maybe she's tougher in the cold than the rest of us!)

I'm glad your feet will be warm though!
