The history of Jodhpurs.

Jodhpur pants.jpgWhile at dinner one night with a group of friends recently we began discussing the term "Jodhpurs." It's a funny word. We wondered where the word came from. My Uncle John pulled out his blackberry and began researching the term, yes, he's kind of a nerd, but in a cool way.

(Isn't it amazing what you can learn while waiting for the pie you ordered to arrive?)

In any case, it seems that the term Jodhpur, which refers to riding pants, comes from the city where they originated, which is Jodhpur, India.

The original jodhpurs were slim at the bottom and flared out, which are funny looking. They flared out because at that time they didn't have stretch fabric, so the flare made riding more comfortable.

Yes, your Uncle John is kind of a nerd, but I'm not so sure it's in the cool way.
